Brand Identity

Things that good brands have:

They are bold, memorable and appropriate to the message. They are easily recognized out of context. They provide a consistent image and persona of the company. Work a in different media, scale, color or black & white.

Brief

Need to shake up the old routine of combining image and type? Come get a dose of inspiration from top notch designers and professionals! Enlightened typography 2009 will explore the experimental methods of type and image making of our era. The conference will focus on how content enriches the product and the importance of content to drive process. And addressing the message that is communicated through this relationship. Through speakers and workshops you will get hands-on experiences and knowledge of contemporary trends and fundamental processes.


Artist Bio
Marian Bantjes is an internationally acclaimed graphic artist from Canada that is known for her custom type and ornamental works. Her areas of study includes design, art, illustration, typography and writing. Her unusual education began with a year of art school and progressing to book typesetter for three years in 1983. She started and co-owned a design firm called Digitopolis which created identity and communication designs. She left the firm to become a graphic artist. Today she works from her studio at home on an island on the west coast of Canada.

Currently she is working as a typography and editorial design teacher through the Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver and is also an author for the design-discussion website Speak Up. She has served as the Communications VP of the Society of Graphic Designers in British Columbia from 2002-2006. She was also the Judge, Chair and Creative Director of the Graphex Canadian Design awards. Her clients to date include Stefan Sagmeister, Saks Fifth Avenue, Pentagram, Print Magazine, The New York Times among others. Her work has been featured in STEP, Print, Fontshop's Font 004, Eye Magazine (58) and many more. Her work is also a part of the permanent collection at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.
